Tang sculpture of a foreigner

This lovely sculpture is made during the Tang dynasty, showing the cultural mix that came along the silk-route. You would almost describe it as ‘barbarian’, this western trader with robe and half bare chest. He has a nice beard, moustache, and headgear. It is made from a red-fired pottery, 25 cm, and his robe is brown glazed. The body is painted brown, and he probably held something in his left hand.
