This tea bowl is 11 cm in diameter, and 4,5 high. made from a yellowish stoneware with a brown base color, decorated with stripes and characters in black. The rim is wiped clean. The characters say shòu bǐ Nán Shān; Live as long as the Zhongnan Mountains! A known but rare motiv on Jizhou bowls. This bowl is likely made in the provincial Ganzhou kilns. I bought the bowl at an antique centre, but found out it was in a Sotheby’s auction Amsterdam in 2002, then sold as Jizhou. The foot and shape are slightly unusual, like the many different products from Ganzhou kilns. This bowl is likely made during the Song / Yuan dynasties.
