This amphora is likely to be dated early Tang dynasty, about 7th century. The design is an interesting mix from a Hellenistic amphora type with a typical Chinese dragon theme. These dragon handles appear already on Jin yue wares, and they form a unique ensemble with the amphora shape that travelled down the silk route.

A very similar vase is in the Yuegutang collection, and one dated Sui dynasty in the Palace Museum. The glaze is greenish, and the clay body grey toned. The vase measures 40 cms, and slightly tilts to one side.

One of the handles has a restoration.

A web of fine crackles runs through the glaze.
