This lovely cylindrical box is from the (northern)Song dynasty 960-1127 a.D. It measures 5,4 cm high and 4,8 cm across.
The white paste is porcelainous, and fine structured. The glaze is a creamy white, and has a beautiful crazing. The creases of the crazing are light brown.
The inside of the box is glazed also. These sort of covered boxes were produced in many costal kilns, situated around Guangdong and Fujian province. The wares from these kilns came in different forms and many were exported to Southeast Asia.
These boxes are documented as from Chaozhou,or as from the Bijiashan kiln in Chaozhou.
The seller described it as from the Xicun kilns, but I haven’t seen that documented yet.
Boxes as these are descriped as pill-box, medicine box, or powder box.
The box is very beautiful, and of good quality in my opinion. It is also relatively rare to have a good matching box en lid.

I do not protect my content. my site is purely based on the enjoyment of the subject. the purpose is sharing. I do not know how to protect content, other then locking it behind a password and having memberships.
